Ab Korine and Arthur Drogowski, co-founders of ADK Fashions Inc., have a shared passion for Art, Design and Fashion that has turned their 25 year partnership into one of Fashion Avenue’s most desirable showrooms.
Mr. Korine was a sales executive at a multi line sales agency in New York prior to starting ADK Fashions. While there, he was instrumental in negotiating and launching the Bernard Zins/Paris trouser collection for the U.S., which has become the number one women’s designer trouser resource in North America. Mr. Drogowski was the Vice President of Sales for Ralph Lauren before joining forces with Mr. Korine.
In 1986, the two formed a partnership and opened ADK Fashions, initially concentrating on selling designer sportswear and weekend wear to the finest specialty stores throughout North America.
Once their foundation was built with the finest specialty stores through out North America, Mr. Korine then set his sights on the major department stores, and successfully signed on Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom’s. One of the labels within the Company, Marian Clayden ultimately became the number one performing couture evening wear collection within the stores. In addition to being a clothing designer, Marian Clayden is also a recognized textile artist known for hand dying coup de velour, or cut velvet, and making garments out it, and her work can be found in the collections of major museums around the world, such as The Smithsonian/New York, The Victoria & Albert in London and the Costume Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of New York. Unfortunately, due to Marian’s poor health, that division had to close down production.
In 1991 ADK Fashions took on the Melinda Eng Collection, which featured cocktail and evening wear in chiffons and structured fabrics. Under the guidance of ADK, the collection evolved to include trendier novelty fabrics and prints which catapulted Eng business to a very successful and profitable level. Eng’s business also grew even further by the inclusion of specialty store business that had not been developed prior to ADK. Being multi-lingual in English, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and French, Mr. Korine successfully works with accounts not only in the U.S. but also in Kuwait, Bahrain, Belgium, England, France, Switzerland and other international locations. ADK’s team is also fluent in Spanish.
ADK has launched and worked with some of the apparel industry’s best designers, and has been instrumental in developing them into significant retail brands: Georges Chakra “Edition”, Model Novias, Frascara, Mimi Plange, Gabriela Cadena, Marian Clayden, Franco Mirabelli, French Laundry, Neto, Melinda Eng, Cesar Galindo, Jayson Brunsdon, and Cyril Veravainne among others.
The couturiers under ADK’s umbrella are the Celebrity’s “Designers of Choice” when attending Red Carpet events and award ceremonies, whether it is the Grammy’s, People’s Choice Awards, CMA Music Awards, the Emmy’s or the Oscars. Some of the famous figures that have recently been wearing our designs include Beyonce, Helen Mirren, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jennifer Lopez, Emily Blunt and Carrie Underwood, to name a few. Carrie Underwood was just named “best dressed”, wearing a creation from Georges Chakra’s Edition collection. Also, Mimi Plange’s recent review by Andre Leon Tally of Vogue said “Plange is a name to watch-she’s got great promise.”
In addition to showroom sales, ADK Fashions has tremendous strength in the areas of design, merchandising and production. Accompanying his designers, Mr. Korine attends Premiere Vision (the Paris fabric trade show) twice a year to assist and purchase fabrics and to stay abreast of color and textile trends. Fashion always remains ADK’s passion and being a step ahead is always our goal.
ADK’s Collections have successfully showcased their designs at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York, both in Bryant Park and Lincoln Center. Charity events, personal appearances and trunk shows are ongoing.
